About The Project

Current Efforts

Invenergy began development of the Pixley solar project in 2017. The project is currently under construction and is targeted to begin operations in 2025.

Economic Benefits

During the life of the project, Pixley is projected to pay millions of dollars in property taxes, lease payments to landowners, salaries to employees, and payments for local goods and services, resulting in a significant increase in economic activity in the Barber County area. Local county infrastructure will benefit from the increase in tax revenue.

Millions in local economic investment
through capital investment, property taxes, and landowner payments

Why Kansas?

Kansas is a national leader in renewable energy. Kansas's renewable energy industry contributes greatly to the economy and has invested over $16 billion in energy projects across the state and supports a workforce of over 3,500 Kansans.

Why Barber County?

The Pixley solar project is a substantial economic development opportunity for Barber County, with millions to be invested in the local economy over the life of the project. We selected Barber County for this project after intense and careful evaluation due to the:

  • Verified, strong solar resource
  • Close proximity to existing transmission infrastructure
  • Low environmental impact risk

Environmental Benefits

Invenergy develops projects to avoid and minimize impacts to natural resources to the greatest degree possible. This not only includes adhering to all federal, state, and local laws, but also includes following our own voluntary standard siting guidelines. As part of our development process, Invenergy has conducted pre-construction environmental surveys to assess the wildlife and natural resources in the Project Area and has coordinated with Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks (KDWP) and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS). Our surveys aligned with recommendations from both agencies, which included identifying and characterizing wetlands/waters and potentially sensitive wildlife habitat within the Project Area. The results of these surveys were integrated into the siting of this Project.

Impact on County Roads

Invenergy has been engaged and will continue to be in close contact with the Barber County Road and Bridge Department and the local township road board. All County and Township roads will be left in the same or better condition than they were prior to their use for the construction of the project.
